The most known highlander songs (notes) based on this scale were won by Jan Krzyptowski Sabała. Perhaps under his influence the highlander scale began to be used by the classical music composer Karol Szymanowski, the creator of, among others the ballet "Harnasie". Apart from the scale described, highlander music is characterized by polyphony. Men sing in a throaty, loud voice, and women sing in a chest (white) voice. The traditional repertoire combined with the original performance gives a special effect when performed in the open air, i.e. in a natural environment because in the past it was sung mainly in the hall during grazing.
