ROUTE NAME: Family Walk along the Traces of Old Cultures
ROUTE TYPE: walking trail
ROUTE TARGET GROUP: route recommended for families with children
DIFFICULTY LEVEL: route for beginners
ROUTE COURSE:
Uherce Mineralne – Myczkowce – Bóbrka – Orelec – Uherce Mineralne
ROUTE DESCRIPTION:
A one-day package for families with children, to walk together and understand the old culture of these regions better. Our trip starts from the Bieszczady School of Crafts in Uherce Mineralne. Owing to a private initiative, the facility has a place where you can take part in workshops of the so-called disappearing professions. The offer of workshops includes culinary workshops related to baking of the traditional Sub-Carpathian “proziak” soda bread, learning the art of calligraphy and making clay pots.
Then, after about two hours of workshops, we go through the unspoilt natural surroundings along the river Olszanica to the Caritas Centre in Myczkowce. The facility offers plenty of attractions such as the Biblical Garden, a mini-zoo or its own horse stables. The Miniature Park of the Ecumenical Culture Centre is the most interesting part for us. There are nearly 140 mock-ups of Orthodox Greek Catholic, Orthodox and Roman Catholic churches from the area of south-eastern Poland, Slovakia and Ukraine.
After leaving the "Caritas" Centre, we go to the observation deck on Myczkowiecke Rocks located nearby. It is definitely good to bring your camera to capture the view of the so-called dead branch of the San River (the old riverbed of the San), which flowed here before the construction of the dam in Myczkowce. Both this interesting place and Lake Myczkowskie, which we will reach in a moment, has become a haven for all kinds of water birds.
Next, we go further into Myczkowce, just until we get to Lake Myczkowskie. The natural beauty of the area is best seen in the fact that you can find as many as five nature reserves here (Koziniec, the reserve upon Lake Myczkowskie, the San gorge near Grodzisk, High Mountain Pasture in Średnia Wieś and Bobry in Uherce). Further on, we arrive in the village called Bóbrka. Bóbrka was founded under the Vlach law in 1441. It stands out among the villages in the Bieszczady Mountains. This is because it hosts numerous art galleries and galleries of traditional crafts. Before we leave Bóbrka, we go slightly north by road 895 to reach a place that combines an art gallery and a farmhouse – Potoki Gallery. In addition to the promotion of Bieszczady handicrafts, the hosts are also involved in the production of goat cheeses.
After this visit, we go further towards Orelec, a village founded under the Vlach law in the first half of the fifteenth century. Among the traces of old Vlach culture, we can find here the wooden Dormition of St. Anna Orthodox Church located on a small hill in the centre of the village. Its construction dates back to 1740. We finish our walk back in Uherce Mineralne.

DESCRIPTION OF OBJECTS:
The Bieszczady School of Crafts - the so-called School of disappearing professions. This is the place in the Bieszczady Mountains where you can actively participate in workshops of disappearing professions. The school was founded in the early twentieth century in Uherce Mineralne. You can go there to form a pot on your own, write greetings according to the rules of pre-war calligraphy, and also learn how to bake the traditional “proziak” soda breads in a rural oven. The modern means of exhibition support the process of discovering old crafts in its total area of nearly 400 m2.
Myczkowce "Caritas" Rehabilitation and Recreation Centre - the Centre was founded after the acquisition of the buildings and grounds of the former military unit by Caritas of Rzeszów Diocese in 1994. This area is about 9 hectares. Apart from residential and rehabilitation facilities, we can admire here, among other things, the largest Biblical Garden in the country, the Ecumenical Culture Centre with more than 140 miniatures of Carpathian sanctuaries, a sports and leisure complex and a mini zoo.
Solina village and Lake Solina - Solina was mentioned for the first time in a document from 1426 as a village situated in the estates of the Kmita family. In the second half of the fifteenth century, the village received another settlement charter under the Vlach law. The construction of dam started in 1960. Some remains of the old village of Solina can be found at the bottom of the present reservoir. The dam, 81.8 meters high and 664 m long, is the highest dam in Poland, and Lake Solina is the largest artificial water reservoir in the country.
