Shepherd's instruments - pipe and split pipe _ double pipe, double pipe, Lesser Poland

Kategoria: Culture

From an early age, shepherds planed these small, flute-like, sycamore pipes. These simple three-, four- or six-hole toy instruments allowed to win melodies, which Wincenty Pol attributed to the force of "waking up the rocks", and Seweryn Goszczyński described as "nice and various tone" instruments. The pipes were single or double, of which the latter were called split. They had a rectangular cross-section with two air channels hidden inside. The first had six holes and was used to win tunes, the second was a secondary channel. According to Krzysztof Trebuni, Tutka was a typical instrument for the Carpathian and Balkan highlanders.

The pipe is hard to see, it is a rare instrument. It can be seen and heard at folklore events in the region. In addition, they are in the collections of the main Małopolska museums.
