Shepherd's outfit - portki Małopolska

Kategoria: Culture

The pants are decorated with embroidered parzenice around buttresses, dogs (crayfish) on the sides of the hips, a stripe running along the legs and kistakami (pompoms) on the ankle. The pants are varied in terms of decorations and sometimes also outfits. These decorations (mainly parzenice) differ in individual ethnographic groups.

Differences in the decor of the trousers:

Highlanders of Żywiec - white trousers (leggings) with buttresses embroidered with red- sapphire -green threads and with black stripes along the legs.
Highlanders of Babiogórski - white beech fringes, decorated with modest green-red parzenice around buttresses (slits).
Orava Highlanders - cloth trousers with two buttresses, decorated with black parzenice in the shape of loops.

Spiscy Highlanders - in the Kacwińska version, the dress referred to the uniforms of the Hungarian honweds (volunteer soldiers of the Hungarian revolutionary troops 1848–49). Men wore white trousers with two heart-shaped parzenice (numerals)
and red-orange stripes on the sides. Highlanders of Podhale - white beech trousers with black stripes along the legs and two ceremonial parzenice adorning the buttresses. Stanisław Witkiewicz wrote that in the Podhale region's trousers there is a special moral power and a special charm of elegance and beauty. Highlanders of Nowy Sącz - cloth trousers decorated with red or black parzenice in the form of the so-called knightly knot or small heart and black stripes. In the summer, linen trousers with jagged legs (circus) were put on, in which the scraps of material were tied together with several threads into tassels.

Pieniński Highlanders - white, digitized (embroidered) beech pants with red stripes and modest embroidery (cocktails) around one buttress.
Nadpopradzcy Highlanders - cloth trousers (noisy) decorated with a knight's knot (parzenica type).
Highlanders Kliszczaccy - wore two types of fringes: linen with hemstitch and fringes at the bottom, called litter or pants (hence their scornful name Gacorze) and cloth, decorated with embroidery along the cut called cliché (hence the name Kliszczacy).
