Extensive halls, wide paths leading through non-forested spaces, comfortable roads climbing from valleys almost to the very top of the mountains. It would seem that the sight of sheep flocks will be permanently associated with the landscape of the Little Pieniny. Pastoralism in these areas did not disappear even after the Ruthenians were displaced from here, for a while it even had the chance to act with momentum. To this day, only ruins of shepherds' remains remained, which were to collectivise grazing.

After the war, highlanders from the Tatras came to the areas abandoned by the Ruthenians. This lease was to be a kind of compensation for the loss of abandoned pastures due to the creation of the Tatra National Park and the associated nature protection. In the years 1948–51 the people's authorities in the Little Pieniny erected four so-called "Model shepherds", planning large-scale pastoralism. The buildings had residential and utility rooms, a cheese smokehouse, a cattle barn and a sheep shed. Slurry tanks were created around them, which was to fertilize the surrounding pastures and a system of dams and stone gutters, helpful in irrigating the halls. However, these facilities quickly began to decline. Shepherds preferred, as before, to stay with sheep on pastures around the clock. The roof over their heads was unnecessary for animals - sheep adapted to mountain conditions perfectly tolerated changing weather conditions and easily spent the entire growing season under the open sky.

After the socio-political changes that took place after 1989, interest in grazing sheep in the Little Pieniny definitely declined. Still, from May to September, you can meet herds here, which like a white carpet, will turn around in green halls.
