Fire and water - two elements so different from each other in Gorce found space to exist side by side. It was on the banks of Ochotnica that the first Wallachian village was created, which could draw on the life-giving power of a mountain stream. The fire, in turn, allowed Wallachians to transform the old, dense forest into areas where shepherding could successfully develop. This is where the name of this mountain group comes from: from "burning" ("burn" - burn, burn), i.e. burning glades among forests using the incandescent method.

Burning the forest was the simplest, least demanding way to get a clearing, but not as simple and obvious as it may seem. How to get a clearing in the area planned for this purpose without burning the whole forest?

The answer is an action called 'cyrhleni'. It consisted of peeling bark from trees (approximately at the height of the human chest) and cutting or tearing the undergrowth growing between the trees. The plants withered, and the trunks without bark, protecting against temperature changes and harmful weather conditions, were dying. The best trees were cut and used, among others to build shepherd's huts, and what was left was set on fire. In this way a space was created, surrounded by forest from all sides, which gradually overgrown with grass. Initially, in such clearings, animals were grazed between the remains of trees, which were gradually chopped up in firewood. Over the years, the roots of the trees rot, and their place began to take the pasture vegetation, shaping the final look of the glades that could already be mowed.

Despite the fact that nowadays 'cyrhlenie' is an activity long forgotten, it has survived in the language. The name "Cyrhla", which was often found in the Carpathians, comes from the method of obtaining glades, which was called peaks.

Route:

The walking route runs through the scenic glades and the valley of one of the most important watercourses in Gorce - Kamienicki Potok, part of the Kamienica River, which is a tributary of the Dunajec.

The journey begins at the Przysłop Pass, in the hamlet of Lubomierz-Rzeki, through which the yellow trail runs, called the Trail of 10 Polans. In 1925, he was marked by Father Walenty Gadowski, creator of the Tatra Orla Percia. We climb the trail towards the forest, where we meet the signs of the educational path "In the valley of Gorcowy Potok". After about 1:00 h we reach the picturesque Podskały Glade, where shepherds' huts have survived to this day. The trail continues through several other scenic glades (including Adamówka, Gorc Troszacki, Pustak), and then reaches the Borek Pass, where it joins the blue trail.

Borek Pass is a place of exceptionally interesting geographically. Intensive erosion by Kamienicki Potok may in the future result in breaking the ridge and connecting waters with the Konin stream. This type of phenomenon is called a hood.

Here we enter the blue trail and follow it down along the course of Kamienicki Potok. After approx. 2:30 h we reach the Trusiówka clearing - here is one of two camping sites that operate in the summer season in the Gorczański National Park (the other - Oberówka clearing in Poręba Wielka). From here, on the road that turns left, without a trail, we can reach the starting point - straight to the Przysłop pass.
